Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers and what do they consist of?

The Dermal fillers used at Phoenix laser and Aesthetics are made from non animal based hyaluronic acid which is found naturally in our skin. Hyaluronic acid plays an important part in keeping the skin plump, youthful and moisturized. As we age the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin diminishes, the skin generally becomes drier and the fat pads in our cheeks tends to start to lose volume and gravity starts to pull at the skin causing it to sag. Dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid are very popular, safe and effective choice. They effectively diminish lines, wrinkles and folds, they can be used to volumise the cheeks and they rehydrate the skin.

How do the dermal fillers work?

Fillers are injected into the dermis to add volume and/or structure. Wrinkles are filled from inside out, giving instant natural smooth looking results which generally last 6-12 months and even longer with repeated use. Lines and wrinkles that have been treated always tend to look markedly better even when the filler has completely worn away. This is because the skin produces its own collagen where the filler has been.

What areas can the dermal fillers be used for?

Fillers can be used to repair/remove the finest wrinkles to the deepest folds. They can be used very successfully to fill in deep depressions and scarring left by acne. They can also be used to give definition to the lips or give them a fuller and more sensual appearance. We believe that lips look at their best when the treatment is subtle. To address a loss of Volume in the cheeks dermal fillers can be used to help redefine and lift facial contours, giving a more youthful and healthy appearance. The results are long lasting often in the region of 18 months.

Which Dermal fillers are used in the clinic?

At Phoenix Laser and Aesthetics we use what we feel are the best  fillers on the market for the area to be treated. Dermal fillers are available in different thicknesses the finer ones are uses for first lines or crows feet whilst the thicker ones tend to be used in deeper lines and folds.

What does treatment involve?

Prior to treatment a full consultation will be required to obtain a full medical history and to discuss treatment options and potential treatments. The treatment will take approximately 30 minutes to complete, the fillers contain Lidocaine which is a local anesthetic which ensures minimal discomfort during the procedure. Clients who are particularly sensitive to pain may wish to use a topical anesthetic cream prior to injection for added comfort.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after treatment there may be some redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. These symptoms are only temporary and generally subside after a few days.
