LIP ENHANCEMENT
What is lip filler?
As we get older, lips can be impacted by the natural ageing process, with the appearance of more fine lines, drooping of the lip corners and a loss of volume. Dermal fillers are designed to gently restore natural-looking lip volume, it is also for defining the lip shape, treating ‘downturned’ or drooping lip corners, smoothing fine ‘barcode’ lines around the mouth and supporting the ‘marionette’ lines down to the chin.
The filler is a gel that is injected into the skin in order to add volume to the lips. It can also be used to lift the corners of the mouth to give a more structured look. The gel used is hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance found in the body.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found throughout the body. It gives volume to the skin.
What results can be obtained from lip treatments?
The lip line (vermillion border) can be accentuated and the lip can be given more volume. Change of shape can be achieved. However, this must be discussed at consultation prior to the treatment with your practitioner. Rest assured we will not overfill your lips.
What is treatment with lip filler like?
Treatment to enhance the lip is very easy a quick process. Since no pre-test is needed, the treatment can be carried out straight away and takes around 30 minutes from consultation to treatment end. The result is instant.
The gel adds volume to the skin. The practitioner injects small amounts of hyaluronic acid directly to create a fuller look. The aim is to contour the lip to the desired levelto gives an ultra-smooth, natural look that can be used to tailor or enhance your smile.
Do the injections hurt?
Lips are numbed using a topical numbing agent. Local application of lidocaine based cream gives the patient comfort from initial injection. Most hyaluronic acid gels have lidocaine in them, also providing comfort on injection.
Can the lip filler be removed?
The gel adds volume to the skin. The practitioner injects small amounts of hyaluronic acid directly to create a fuller look. The aim is to contour the lip to the desired levelto give an ultra-smooth, natural look that can be used to tailor or enhance your smile.
Is it safe?
The hyaluronic acid in the filler is almost identical to that already present in the body. It is possible to dissolve the product if there are any serious problems. Immediately after, the treatment site can be slightly swollen and red. This is a normal result of the injection and generally, reduces within a day or two.
Are there any other types of reactions that may occur?
Yes, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a high risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another cold sore eruption. If you are using aspirin or any other similar medication, you should be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
How long does the effect of the filler last?
Since the filler is a substance very similar to your own skin, the same ongoing processes (such as ageing) that change the structure of your skin will also alter the filler. Eventually, the filler totally disappears from the body. How long the effect of the treatment lasts differently with every individual. It depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle, age and the degree of expectation by the individual. Most people choose to have a new treatment within a year after the initial treatment (wrinkles and folds) and within half a year after lip treatments.
